In an obvious decision, BJP today expelled it’s eight Parliament members including two from Gujarat. BJP Lok Sabha members who either abstained or cross-voted during the vote of trust are expelled by the party.

The expelled Lok Sabha members from Gujarat are Somabhai Gandabhai Patel(Surendranagar constituency) and Babubhai Katara(Dahod constituency). Both were already suspended by the party earlier due to different reasons.

Somabhai Patel was suspended from the party on 22nd of December last year, just two days before Gujarat assembly election results. He was suspended for anti-party activities during assembly election. Somabhai Patel’s son had fought an election on Congress ticket from Viramgam but he had lost. Somabhai had openly campaigned for his son and other Congress candidates and had lauded series of statements against Narendra Modi and L.K Advani. He had made it clear that he would vote for UPA.

While Babubhai Katara, was suspended from BJP in April, 2007 for his alleged involvement in a human trafficking case. Currently on bail, Babu Katara had earlier expressed his wish to vote in favor of BJP whip but on the floor he voted for Congress.

Meanwhile, BJP spokes person Prakash Javdekar alleged that 35 cr Rs. were offered for a vote in favor of UPA and 5 cr Rs. were offered for absence to MPs.
