Bilimora-Vaghai Eco-friendly train flagged off
Mumbai, 14 April, 2010
Western Railway launched this division’s first bio-diesel train on Wednesday in south Gujarat’s Bilimora on Wednesday in an attempt to make rail travel more environmentally friendly.
The train uses a blended fuel which is a mix of 10 percent bio-diesel to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to a greater extent without harming the engine. Bio-diesel is processed fuel derived from biological sources, such as vegetable oils, which can be used in unmodified diesel engine vehicles.
Mumbai Division’s railway manager flagged off the train that will cover 32 miles between Bilimora and Vaghai. The railway is also taking other steps to preserve the environment, like introduction of bio-degradable toilets and other measures to preserve environment.
