Ports in Gujarat are now hoisting cautionary warning signal no.3 and fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea for the next one day following formation of a low pressure area in the Arabian sea.

“Due to a well-marked low pressure area over east central Arabian sea, squally weather would prevail at Gujarat ports during the next 24 hours,”Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said here today.

Hence, all ports across Gujarat coastline have been asked to hoist warning signal No 3 immediately, they said.

Warning signal No 3 is hoisted at a port which is likely to experience squally weather (meant to cover occasional or frequent squalls with rains or persistent strong gusty winds accompanied with rain).

“Heavy to very heavy rains would occur at isolated places over south Gujarat, Saurashtra, Diu, Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli during the next two days,”the officials said.Moderate to heavy rain or thundershower would occur at many places in Saurashtra and South Gujarat, they said, adding light to moderate rain or thundershower would occur at isolated places in North Gujarat and Kutch region.

The sea would be rough and wind speed may touch 45-55 kmph. Fishermen, therefore, have been advised not to venture into the sea for the next one day, officials said.
