Modi to launch Pulse Polio Eradication Campaign for 85 lakh children

With a view to bring down the infant mortality rate, Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi will launch state-wide Pulse Polio Eradication Campaign on January 23, 2011, by administering polio drops to children. Health Minister Shri Jaynarayan Vyas and Minister of State for Health Shri Parbat Patel will remain present on the occasion.

State government has made some 1879 mobile teams and 1518 transit teams that will go to various parts of the state as well the places like bus stations, railway stations, airports and carry out immunization rounds. Government has formed district taskforces under the headship of collectors. Class-1 officers in districts will act as coordinating officers. As many as 34,067 polio booths have been created and about 1,08,16,839 dose of vaccines are made available. Some 1,36,275 health workers will give their service. In all, a well implementation of the vaccination programme will be ensured.

State government is using E-Mamta computerized application to keep track of vaccination programme. A particular Wednesday is observed as a Mamta Divas in all villages of the state when free of cost vaccines are given to children.

Gujarat is rapidly heading towards becoming a No-Polio state. Not a single case of polio has been registered in the state due to the effective implementation of anti-polio campaign.

State government has made a public appeal to all the parents of the children of age-group 0 to 5 to respond the polio eradication campaign even if their children are already vaccinated before.
