Shri Bhushan Ashok Bhatt will be contesting Khadia assembly byelection on BJP ticket. He will file his nomination form on Friday 28th of January which is also the birth date of his late father and senior BJP leader Shri Ashok Bhatt.
Bhushan is son of late Shri Ashok Bhatt who passed away last year. Senior Bhatt represented Khadia assembly area in Gujarat Assembly for decades. He was Gujarat Assembly Speaker when he died. Junior Bhatt is Municipal Corporator from Khadia. Bhushan is involved in construction business. He was Health Committee Chairman in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation when Senior Bhatt was Health minister in Gujarat.
Bhushan’s main rival in the election will be Congress party’s candidate Jagat Shukla. Jagat had lost Khadia election against Senior Bhatt in 2004 Gujarat Assembly election.
When senior Bhatt was hospitalized in Ahmedabad in critical condition before his death, he had reportedly expressed his wish before Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to select Bhushan as a candidate for Khadia assembly election in future.
Khadia is witnessing its last assembly election as per the old delimitation. The next election of 2012 will be contested on completely new geography. Whole Muslim dominated area of Jamalpur will be a part of Khadia constituency. In fact Muslim voters will be in majority in 2012 Khadia assembly election. Thus Hindus of Khadia take this byelection as possibly the last chance to elect a Hindu BJP MLA.
