Sabarmati Riverfont project slum demolition drive stayed

While hearing a matter in chamber, a Bench headed by the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court on Friday evening ordered a stay on further demolition for riverfront project with immediate effect.
Earlier in the day the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) had carried out demolition drive in Gujari bazar area of Sabarmati river front in which several slums were demolished.
Soon after this hundreds of slum dwellers led by their counsel gathered at Gujarat High court. The Chief Justice who had completed his work called the leaders and their lawyer in his chamber and heard that unless the authoritis provide alternative location, demolition of slums should be stayed. The Bench ordered stay on demolition and adjourned the case for June 13.
