60 Sirens to alert people in disaster prone Kutch

Heavy Flood, disastrous cyclone, full scale war with Pakistan, and major earthquake, Guajrat’s Kutch district has experience this all. And one of the steps taken by the administration in view of vulnerability of this district is erection of 60 sirens at various places in the district to alert the people from any disaster that is likely to strike.
As many as 60 sirens equipped with battery box and computer are being looked after by Civil Defense authority. Each siren is checked once in a week.
Sirens are erected at various types of places including schools, hospital, police stations, power house, colleges, industrial townships, panchayats among other places.
Sirens are meant for alerting the people before disaster strikes. While Abadasa and Naliya talukas have presence of 20 sirens, Bhuj city and taluka has 10 sirens. Gandhidham and surrounding areas have 30 sirens working. Adding to this, more sirens are to be erected in the district as per the plan.
