Junagadh’s Navrang Nature Club has made an appeal to the farmers to grow a line of Bajra and Jowar in their farm along with the main crop. This appeal has been made by the club to preserve one of god’s finest creations, the birds.

The club is expecting that nearly 50,000 farmers from Sorath and Saurashtra will join this campaign in this Kharif crop season. Rasik Chaniyara of the Navrang natures club said that this project has been started in order to maintain the food for the birds. He also added that the sowing of crops like Bajra and Jowar have become low in recent time, and this trend has directly affected the food for the birds. When in reality these birds protect the crops by destroying pests and insects which exclude the use of pesticides.

Thus an appeal was made to the farmers that during the sowing of crops in monsoon they sow a line of Jowar and Bajra. In this way they can provide ample amount of food for the birds. This campaign was started in the year 2009. According to Chaniyara, last year nearly 40,000 farmers mostly from Saurashtra volunteered to sow at least 2 lines of Bajra and Jowar in their farm.
