According to highly placed sources in Congress party, Shri Ahmed Patel, Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary will file nomination for Rajya Sabha election in Gujarat on 11th of July at Gandhinagar.

Patel is presently Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat and his 6-year-term is going to end this month.

Gujarat is going witness Rajya Sabha election for three seats on 22 July. While BJP is in a position to win two seats, the Congress with its present strength in the state Assembly is in a position to get elected one Rajya Sabha member. The re-election of Patel seems to be certain, though an official announcement of his candidature is yet to be made.
