Gujarat dominates gauge conversion part of railway budget 2012

Union railway minister Shri Dinesh Trivedi in his budget speech of year 2012-13 today announced two gauge conversion projects sanctioned in 2012-13. These both projects are from Gujarat. They are; 1. Ahmedabad – Botad and 2. Dhasa – Jetalsar.
Shri Trivedi also announced a list of four gauge conversion projects sent to planning commission. One of them is Himmatnagar-Khedbrahma with ext. upto Abu road. This line will connect Himmatnagar and Khedbrahma to main railway route of the country.
The minister announced a list of 7 new Surveys for Gauge Conversion sanctioned in 2012-13, six of them(barring one Tantpur to Bansi Paharpur) from Gujarat:-
1. Kalol-Kadi
2. Gandhidham-Anjar-Mundra
3. Khambhat-Khambhat port
4. Ahmedabad-Sardargram-Dabhoda Nandol Dahegam-Rakhiyal-JaliyamathPratij-Himmatnagar
5. Navlakhi-Malia-Rajkot
6. Tantpur to Bansi Paharpur
7. Bhavnagar-Adhelal-Dholera-Vataman-Petlad
Gauge conversion is important because it opens up a new world for the villages on route.
The railway minister announced a list of 21 new Surveys for doubling projects sanctioned in 2012-13. The list includes Rajkot-Okha and Surendranagar-Vani road routes.
