Shaktisinh to kick off Bhavnagar (Rural) campaign from Dussera

Bhavnagar, 21 October 2012

Leader of opposition in Gujarat assembly, Shaktisinh Gohil will kick off the campaign for Bhavnagar(rural) seat on Vijaya Dashami with a rally at Khodiyar mandir at Rajpara.

Gohil is MLA from Bhavnagar(south) – the seat that has been abolished by the delimitation commission.

He is now all set to contest from Bhavnagar(rural seat) which consists parts of Bhavnagar taluka, entire Ghogha taluka except village Lakadiya, and part of Sihor taluka.

BJP may field minister of state and Koli community leader Parshottam Solanki to challenge Shaktisinh. If this happens, Solanki who is MLA from Ghogha will rely on Koli and BJP supporters’ votes while Gohil will rely on Kshatriyas and Congress supporters’ votes. Rajpara Khodiyar is central place of faith for Kshatriyas of Gohilwad region. Shaktisinh may also expect some favor from Keshubhai/Gordhanbhai’s Gujarat Parivartan Party(GPP) factor. If GPP fields suitable candidate to damage BJP votes, that would help Shaktisinh.

In 2009 Lok Sabha poll – which was held as per the new delimitation – Congress had got 31,193 votes while BJP 26,587 and MahaGujarat Janata Party(now GPP) got 20,696 votes in Bhavnagar rural seat. This time due to winter, assembly fever and powerful local candidates, voting may increase in 10-15% range. If GPP can cut significant number of Patel votes, and local cadres of Congress ensure excellent non-Koli voting, Gohil may taste comfortable victory.
