Photo story: A visit to Amdavad’s Flower Show 2013

What a great activity the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is doing by organizing path-breaking public events like Air conditioned book fair, Sabarmati Marathon, Cyclothon, Kankaria Carnival and the latest is Amdavad flower show. The AMC does all these activities with private sponsors. The flower show – first of its kind in Gujarat has been organized at a completely new venue. It has been held over reclaimed land of Sabarmati river front near Tagore hall.

As soon as you enter the flower show ground this Gujarat map created by flowers attracts your attention, and makes you compel to spend few minutes there. How beautifully the map of Gujarat has been executed with so many flowers. The beauty is in its vertical position. Same map if made horizontally on ground could look so normal and traditional. Three cheers to those conceived and created this map in this style.

In one of the photographs you can watch two tents housing an exhibition. In these tents there are many stalls showcasing garden tools, seeds, fertilizers, and varieties of nursery products. Look at the next few pictures.

This stall attracted attention due to its innovative product of vertical garden. Well, one can easily set up this folding plastic wall at house or elsewhere. The stall owners were flooded with inquiries.

And this stall offers Chinese fruit Honey pomelo for Rs 150 a piece. A lady at stall said they have exported this variety, but it will be soon produced in Gujarat itself.

And now coming to some of the flowers we liked. This saffron/orange flower reminds us flames, but cool flames that would not cause burn. There’s paradox in its beauty. It looks like fire, and its sharp ages also contribute to that feel, but it still attracts the like, due to its beautiful craft and color.

This pink flower looks too good. What a design by nature! It’s shape and color both very charming.

This pink flower is our most favorite. It should be exactly replicated into a pair of ear rings of big size. Such earrings, if can be made, may look excellent.

And this red/white flower looks handsome due to mix of two colors. While other flowers presented above look like sculpture pieces, this flower looks like a painting by nature.

And this red-shoe flower, what we call Jaasud in Gujarati was standing like it wanted to shake hand with us. its color impresses the eyes.

And such varieties of flowers were exhibited on a big plot in the open section of the exhibition.

Other sections in the exhibition were food street and ‘buy-a-plant’ zone. It was good to note that people were spending more money at ‘buy-a-plant’ zone, rather than the food street.

Over all the AMC really deserves many congratulations for organizing such path breaking events to keep the city vibrant. The AMC of course does its basic duties well, and on the top of it works over time to organize such events that add value to the city and city life.
