BJP, Congress claim major victory in Gram panchayat polls

Though Gram Panchayat elections are contested without party symbol, both BJP and Congress in Gujarat have claimed their major victory in the elections of Gram panchayats. The elections for 1132 gram panchayats were held on 3 February. The results were declared today.
State BJP spokesperson Shri IK Jadeja today in a press conference said that the rural Gujarat has elected 89% candidates of BJP ideology in the Gram panchayat elections.
Jadeja said that 286 Grarm panchayats elected their body unopposed even before the elections and slapped Congress party, the voters have continued the trend even in the polling.
He said the party will continue its victory march in 17th February taluka/district panchayat polls. BJP’s Arjanji Makwana is unopposed winner on Deodar seat, Kantibhai Vasava is winner on Kaniyel seat of Kathlal taluka panchayat, similarly Vav taluka pachayat’s Daiyap seat, Tharad taluka panchayat’s Sanavia, Ghodasar, Dodgam seats, Deodar taluka panchayat’s Deodar-1 seat, Dhanera’s Vaghhol seat, Jetpur Pavi taluka panchayat seats, Halol taluka’s Vadatalav and Kanteli seats, Jafarabad taluka’s Kadiyali seat are secured by BJP candidates unopposed even before the election.
He said the BJP has won one district panchayat and 11 taluka panchayat seats – thus in total 12 seat unopposed. Gujarat’s development lover voters will favour BJP in 10 February municipality polls and 17 February district and taluka panchayat polls.
On the other side, Gujrat Congress has claimed victory of Congress motivated candidates in 589 gram panchayats.
