Express way to link highway and city

Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC) will build an express highway connecting the city and the national highway no.8.

A new express link highway will make the journey to city faster. At present, a road connecting the highway to city is just another road, not capable to address the needs of smooth run of traffic.

A feasibility report will be prepared this year for the task of building a new link highway. The project will be initiated under public private partnership model. SMC has allotted Rs 50 lakh in this year’s budget for this project.

SMC’s own CCTV camera network

Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC) has allotted Rs three crore in its annual budget of year 2013-14 for its own CCTV camera project.

According to Bhimji Patel, Chairman of Standing committee of SMC, the project will serve various purposes. A camera on bridge will be used for flood control, the other cameras will be useful to keep watch on encroachments, monitoring the sanitation work etc. The project will include provision of GPS.

SMC will connect its camera network with the existing network of camera set up by the Surat Police. SMC will set up a control room to receive and record the visuals.

Golf club, world-class garden planned

The Surat Municipal Corporation has allotted Rs 25 lakh for feasibility report on construction of new Golf club in the city on public private partnership model. Rs 1 crore has been allotted to develop a world-class garden in Khajod area. The garden will be in a shape of seven steps. It will have colorful fountains, a lake and boating facilities.

Maintenance free Zebra crossings

SMC has taken a decision to use thermoplastic to create Zebra crossings. The present practice of painting needs regular maintenance, while thermoplastic paint crossings will not need maintenance, and repainting.

Water sports activity at Dumas

SMC has allotted Rs 50 lakh for water sports activities at Dumas. The water front will be developed here along with the facilities like food plaza and boating. With this, the city will get a new hangout.

A new Surat darshan car

The civic body will buy a ‘Surat darshan’ van at a cost of Rs 25 lakh. This vehicle will be used to carry the visiting guests of SMC. It will have a table, computer and other facilities aboard.

The SMC in its final budget has taken a decision to make the city container free. Presently containers are used to dump garbage.

Construction of total 21 bridges, solar traffic signals, development of crematoriums etc are other projects approved in the final budget.
