A bill for setting up three private universities passed in assembly

Gujarat Assembly today passed Private University Amendment Bill – 2013. This makes a way for three new universities in Gujarat, namely; Lakulish Yog University, Chharodi, Gandhinagar, (2) Teamlease Skill University, Vadodara and (3) CU Shah University, Wadhwan city, district Surendranagar.

Proposed Skill University will be India’s first Skill University, said Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama while speaking on bill. He added that three universities will add opportunities to study Yog, skill, core studies,job training, elective courses, journalism, life science, microbiology, bio technology, astronomy, interior building design, construction technology among others.

He said, the Skill university will be set up by Teamlease Education Foundation. In first phase, they will set up the main campus and studio. With this, six community colleges will start two-year prgramme and courses on finance, michetronics and IT infrastructure. In second phase, the university will start research centers, distance learning, and three-year degree programme through 16 community colleges. Hospitality, sales and manufacturing sector programms will be part of that.

The University will teach skills helpful in life, complementary courses, core courses, training for job, institutional knowledge enhancing courses, elective course etc. It will set up organizational and community college structure. It will give consultancy support, vocational education training, community coverage for labors. This university will be different than others when it comes to cost and flexibility.

The minister said that Lakulish Yog University will be Gujarat’s first university providing Yog education. Life Mission Trust, the organization behind this university teaches Yog oriented life skill nationally and internationally since 1993. This university will cover courses like Ashtangyog, Karm, Gyan, Bhaktiyog etc. It will also teach courses of tatvagyan, psychology, anatomy, Ayurveda, naturopathy etc.

Third proposed private university will be Vardhaman Bharti trust’s CU Shah University in Wadhwan city.Vardhman Bharti Trust was established in 1969 to spread education and training in rural areas. The University trust will start courses of life science, microbiology, biochemistry, biotechnology, bioinformatic, journalism, mass communication, performing arts, astrophysics, astronomy, architecture, interior building and design, construction technology, ceramic material science etc courses in first phase.

In second phase the trust will start communication and advertising, crafting creative communication, advertising public relation, marine engineering, disaster management etc courses.

Trust also aims to start post graduate and Phd programms in existing streams. The Trust also intends to collaborate with pharama industry to create more employment opportunities. The trust wants to start its own software development center in next two years with an investment of Rs 20 crore. Weaker students will get scholarship and waiver in fees.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Modi, the state granted permission to first private university in year 2003. At present there are ten private universities.
