Controversial Gujarat University Vice Chancellor Adesh Pal resigns

Highly controversial Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University Dr. Adesh Pal has submitted his resignation. Pal met Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi before announcing his resignation. After meeting the Chief Minister for 10 minutes in Gandhinagar, Pal told reporters that he resigned due to health reasons. He said he was happy with his performance during his tenure. He said there were no charges against him and anything on that line was not discussed with the Chief Minister.

It is understood that both Pal and Vice Chancellor Adesh Pal were asked to step down by education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Revenue minister Anandiben Patel and junior education minister Vasuben Trivedi. Pal has been controversial since day one of his present job and even before that during his past assignments.

Gujarat Congress Chief described him as characterless. Pal went to court against him.

-Gujarat Congress had made the details of Pal’s liquor permit public. He was described as first Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University with liquor permit and habit to drink.

-Gujarati media had criticized the Gujarat government for appointing someone who is not Gujarati as Gujarat University’s Vice Chancellor.

-When Gujarat was facing drought, Pal was building swimming pool at official residence of Vice Chancellor. When press photographers tried to click it from above the compound wall, they were attacked by Pal’s security guards.

-Pal is perhaps the first Vice Chancellor who has hired bouncers for his security.

-Allegations were made that Pal started using a car purchased for University’s EMRC department.

-The state education department early this week issued a show cause notice to Pal seeking explanation from him for allowing admissions to students in the two private institutes with which GU has signed MoUs for running five-year integrated professional courses. The government had rejected the MoUs.

-Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama was constantly observing every step and every controversy involving Mr. Pal. He was frequently called to Gandhinagar and his several actions were objected by Education minister.

-After Congress leader Narhari Amin joined BJP, he had complained against Mr. Pal during a meeting with state Education minister which lasted for more than hour.
