Launching of BRTS Citylink trial run in Surat likely this month

BRTS buses may start running in Surat by end of this month, possibly from 15 September onwards. The standing committee of Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC) will fix the ticket rates soon in its meeting. The first phase service will be functional on Udhna main road stretch.

On Friday, the SMC constituted a body of its special purpose vehicle called Citylink to make BRTS service functional. Municipal commissioner has been appointed chairman of Citylink, Deputy commissioner will work as CEO while Additional City engineer will perform the task of Managing director. Apart from these three director, Standing Committee Chairman, Public works committee chriaman, Surat RTO, DCP traffic, SUDA CEO and SMC Chief accountant will be the members of the committee.

SMC traffic cell office at Mandarwaja has been made a registered office of Citylink.

The first two phases will involve more than two dozen routes. Minimum fare of AC BRTS bus is likely to be Rs. 5. There is a possibility of introduction of free service during initial trial run period for passengers.
