Junagadh, 23 October 2013
Junagadh market yard will go on partial strike from 26 October and total strike from 28 October against Congress-led UPA government’s decision to ban groundnut oil export.
Last year, after poor monsoon, farmers got Rs. 1200 for 20 kg groundnut from the market. This year after good monsoon the price has come down to Rs. 500-600. Added to this, the central government has imposed ban on groundnut oil export.
According to Junagadh Yard Chairman Vinubhai Hapani, Gujarat contributes 59% to India’s total groundnut production. Hapani said “on one hand the input cost has increased, and on the other hand, due to centre’s policy, farmers are not getting proper price of their produce. In such circumstances, the market yard will stop receiving farm produce from 26 October and completely shut down from 28 October.”
