Gas demand in Morbi increases following HC order

Morbi, 7 November 2013

Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) is witnessing sudden rise in demand of gas at Morbi following a court order that has made it mandatory to use gas in ceramic industry units.

In its recent order, the Gujarat High Court directed ceramic industry in Morbi to use natural gas as fuel replacing coal gas to prevent pollution.

According to Morbi Ceramic Association president Shri Divyeshbhai Patel, the industrial units here have started using natural gas following the court order. Earlier, GSPC used to supply around 10 lakh cubic meter gas to Morbi, but after the court order, the demand is up at 25-27 lakh cubic meter.

According to Mr. Patel, there are some complains that GSPC is not capable to cop up with increased demand of gas at present. In this regard the association held a meeting with higher officers of GSPC and asked the company to supply sufficient gas as per the agreement that was signed between GSPC and Ceramic industry.
