High-voltage BCA election on 15 December

Vadodara, 24 November 2013

The elections of Baroda Cricket Association(BCA) will be held on 15 December. It seems the main fight will be between present president Chirayu Amin and vice president Samarjitsinh Gaekwad.

BCA has just completed 75 years. Amin and Gaekwad were in same panel in last elections and before that for many years. Chirayu Amin has been president of BCA for two decades. Gaekwad has been secretary and vice president during this time.

Gaekwad and secretary Sanjay Patel have however left the camp of Chirayu Amin this year. It is believed that Gaekwad will contest against Amin with his own new panel.

It is believed that Gaekwad was to contest for president’s post in last election, but Amin assured him that this was his last turn, and he would support Gaekwad in next election. However now when election time is near, it is believed Amin has backtracked.

It has to be mentioned here that Gaekwad’s cousin brother Pratapsinh is in Amin’s camp. He supports a group of former cricketers including Kiran More, Anshuman Gaikwad and Nayan Mongiya for the post of vice president of BCA.

Meanwhile BCA secretary Sanjay Patel, who supports Samarjitsinh Gaekwad said that the issues of land and stadium are important in this election. BCA’s history began at palace compound, and the elections hould take place in palace compound this time. This is the decision of managing committee members. BCA’s last three elections took place in Amin’s Alembic company campus. Earlier all elections were held at Lakshmi Vilas palace’s Durbar hall. Patel said the association should have its own stadium, and this is the prime issue.

There are total 2,000 voters eligible to vote in the election which would take place on 15 December.
