Gujarat govt to sponsor youths for Everest expedition

The Government of Gujarat is planning to encourage the youths who want to climb the mount Everest – world’s tallest mountain.
Recently during an interaction with media persons in Ahmedabad, minister of Sports Ramanlal Vora said Gujarat has number of youths who have climbed up to 17-22,000 ft mountains. The state is in contact with such youths. If some of them wish to climb Mount Everest, the state has shown readiness to extend full financial assistance for entire adventure including training, equipments and other facilities. The state government is trying to form a special group of at least six youths from Gujarat, who are willing to scale Everest together.
So far IPS Atul Karwal is only person in Gujarat who has scaled Everest. Karwal originally belongs to Haryana. Karwal was given financial assistance of over Rs. one million by state government for his expedition.
