Ahmedabad, 25 March 2014
Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) has asked the election commission to take proper action against Gujarat Governor’s office for appointing Kutch district Congress unit’s existing president Navalsinh Mahobatsinh Jadeja as Kutch University’s executive council member. The Governor as per the complaint made by BJP has also appointed Congress members into University’s executive council when the model code of conduct is effective.
According to a statement issued by Gujarat BJP, such appointments clearly violate the basic principals of democracy. The BJP in its letter to EC said, these appointments are made for political gains, without prior permission of Election Commission. It is clear case of violation of the model code of conduct.
Meanwhile when approached, Navalsinh Jadeja said he was a member of executive council already and term was ending on 27th. Governor has power to appoint two members in executive council and she has just used her power.
