Narendra Modi at Surendranagar(video and highlights in text)

Surendranagar, 23 April 2014

Presented here are the highlights of BJP prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s first campaign speech in Gujarat today at Surendranagar in Saurashtra.

-I have seen many elections, but the elections this time are different. These are the elections fought by people of this country.

There’s Tsunami in entire nation. So far polling has been completed on 232 Lok Sabha seat. Such a big turnout has not been noticed ever in the history of Indian elections. During emergency, anger was high, but such a big turnout was not witnessed. The trends, and whatever I gain from my tour across India suggest that people have completed two tasks. One, they have ensured departure of government sitting in Delhi, and two they have laid foundation for a new government.

The people who are going to vote now during 30 April – 12 May period will have to vote to install a strong government. Simply departure of Congress party is not enough. We in Gujarat(government) bravely move ahead and take decisions efficiently, because people of Gujarat have consistently given us 2/3rd majority. It is due to such support of people, that we get strength to perform. We want a strong government in Delhi. Just departure of Congress is not our goal. Our fight it not just for sitting on the throne. We are laborer no.1 and it is our fate to do labour, and we are ready to do it, but we want 300 lotuses in parliament. And Gujarat has to lead in taking this responsibility.

Tell me, if there was not anti-Gujarat government in Delhi, how speedily our Narmada project could progress? The works of dam, gate erection, water, power, SAUNI scheme could progress speedily. Who blocked it? Who stopped these development works? This anti-Gujarat government.

Once there’s our government in Delhi, ‘panchey aangaliyo ghee maa‘. We Gujarati are calculative people, we know it all. ‘Mosaal maa maa pirasnaar.’ I don’t need to explain much in Gujarat.

The central government caused 7,000 crore damage to farmers of three-four districts in Gujarat by putting restrictions on export of cotton. You have to take decision whether you now want to punish the or not. Government in Delhi should be such that understands the solution of problems of people.

BJP has mentioned two important points in its manifesto. There are other things too, but these two are important for Surendranagar. The Vajpayee government did an excellent job of rural roads scheme. Remote villages with 500 population were connected through roads through this scheme. Now it’s our dream that the new government will bring irrigation water to villages through nationwide irrigation network.Another task to be performed is river linking. Imagine, transfer of access water available in eastern side of India to western side.

The third point is about new method of deciding minimum support price. Presently there’s no method of deciding minimum support price. An officer from Delhi takes decision on his own. There’s no policy or method involved. We have announced in our manifesto to introduce a method of deciding minimum support price by adding 50% to total input cost.

Congress promised employment to 10 crore youths in five years. Did they give any job to anyone here? The Atal Bihari Vajpayee government gave employment to 6.5 crore people in its six years term. This mother-son government has given employment to only 1.25 to 1.50 crore people in ten years. It is our pledge to give employment to youth, water, power and proper price to farmers.

Don’t miss to vote due to wedding or other reason. Gujarat should witness highest turnout compared to rest of the parts of the country. There’s a week still left. Do elect Devjibhai.
