Schools across Gujarat reopen today after a long summer vacation. Due to extreme heat, some schools will reopen on 15 June. Morning schools are advised to conclude their day at 11.00 am due to heat. Afternoon schools are advised to run morning session due to heat. Gujarat has over 40,000 primary and over 10,500 secondary and higher secondary schools. There are more than five million students in std 1-12.

Toll of deaths due to extreme heat and harsh summer in Ahmedabad has touched 12.

Unlike previous Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the present CM Anandiben Patel will not have security cover of National Security Guards(NSG). She will also not have jammer car in her convoy. Anandiben herself had proposed this. Her convoy will have two car less than previous Chief Minister’s convoy. After a review meeting in Gandhinagar, the state Home department has taken a decision to provide Z+ security cover to Anandiben, but excluding NSG cover, Jammer vehicle, tail car, ambulance vehicle and two othr cars in convoy.

Gujarat Congress has canceled its meeting which was to be held today to review total defeat in Lok Sabha elections in state.

Rs 8 crore repair work has been started at Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam site. The repair work will take a week or more to complete. Due to 81-day long overflow and jump of 14 lakh cusec water from 131 meter height during last monsoon, the footer part of the dam on downstream side suffered damage over its concrete surface.

Gujarat Maritime Board(GMB) official at Bhavnagar district’s Ghogha site of Ghogha-Dahej ferry service told media persons that the project will be operational from the month of March next year. BJP MP Mansukh Mandavia, local MLAs and other politicians visited the site to have update on this important project last week. Mandavia told media persons that construction of Ghogha terminal of project will be over by December this year.
