Gujarat Congress seeks sitting Judge probe into Housing board draw

Ahmedabad, 19 June, 2014

Gujarat Congress has demanded probe by sitting judge into the draw for allotment of housing units conducted by the state government.

Modhwadia claimed Gujarat has 16 lakh homeless people, and the state government has not taken any concrete action in last 13 years for them.

He said his party will hold dharna at Ahmedabad, Rajktot, Vadodara and Surat seeking house facility for ordinary-middle class families.

Modhwadia claimed that at first glance it seems that only those who applied online were given weightage in draw. 897 who have been allotted flat in Ahmedabad’s Naranpura housing scheme are all those who applied online. Those who physically submitted their forms are not given chance.

Modhwadia alleged that the state government conducted draw over the night without anyh planing or checking. Those who filed application online received SMS for confirmation, but others were not informed about succesful submission of their forms.

Modhwadia said there should be 27% quota for other backward class in allotment, but the level has been kept at 10%. He said housing units are allotted to more than one member of same family in some cases.

Modhwadia reminded that state government had introduced housing board scheme in 2013 after a gap of 12 yers. Rs. 1200 crore tenders were given to influential and favorite builders just before the elections. During Congress rule, 541.90 acre land was available across the state for Housing for common-middle class people. BJP government gave away 50% of this land to their builders, he alleged.
