Former CM Suresh Mehta attends Congress meet

Gandhinagar, 20 June, 2014
Light weight politician but former Chief Minister Suresh Mehta today attended Gujarat Congress’s meeting in Gandhinagar Circuit house. Suresh Mehta left BJP and later became one of the founder members of Gujarat Parivartan Party(GPP) which has been disolved. The Congress meeting was attended by top Gujarat Congress leaders including Shankersinh Vaghela, Arjun Modhwadia and Shaktisinh Gohil among others. When asked, Suresh Mehta refused to give reaction over his presence in Congress meeting. Mehta skipped TV cameras and left the meeting. When asked, leader of opposition in Gujarat assembly Shankersinh Vaghela said Suresh Mehta was called to present his view on upcoming budget.
Mehta has lost significance in Gujarat’s political arena for last many years. He has not been able to contest even an assembly election. The label of ‘former Chief Minister’ is something he is still enjoying, but those who know politics of 1990s know it very well that he was a Chief Minister by accident because those more deserving and powerful compared to him were unacceptable to section of ruling party.
