Minister Nitin Patel briefed media persons regarding Chief Minister’s meeting with Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti(PASS) convener Hardik Patel, Sardar Patel Group(SPG) head Lalji Patel and others in Gandhinagar. Following are main points shared by Nitin Patel:

Our meeting went on for five hours.

We briefed them about the procedures government has completed so far in response to their representation. We informed them about government’s plans.

We also informed them about government’s action plan for bright students belonging to non-reserved class.

The meeting proceeded very peacefully, with in depth discussion and in satisfactory manner.

They had first demanded that they should be allowed to bring 144 persons to discuss the issues with Chief Minister.

We told them that such a big meeting would not be possible and only main office bearers should come for good discussion.

Then about 20 representatives with Hardik Patel and Lalji Patel were present, and the interaction was very good.

Chief Minister also clarified some points.

They have assured the government that they will make their agitation lighter and they will not give any major (agitation) programme.

They have requested that they wish government to respond in 10 days to issues they raised.

We have shared details with them. As per the Gujarat High Court directive, Gujarat govt has formed a committed led by CID Crime. Those from across the state if have complain regarding police atrocity will be heard and those guilty will face action.

They assured that whenever Gujarat govt would call them next time, they will come for discussion.

We have told them that Gujarat govt will see that bright students from non-reserved and reserved both classes get equal opportunity in college admission through scholarship and other ways.

This was very good beginning and this meeting was successful for peaceful atmosphere in state after agitation during last few days.

Regarding reservation issue, we told them to start legal procedure at Other Backward Class(OBC) commission, and if OBC commission recommends, then government would come in picture.

They have said that they will hold their programme of march peacefully.

We told them to wait before we announce a scheme that will remove difference between reserved and non-reserved bright students. They said if scheme is good they will welcome it.

They thanked the Chief Minister.
