Achala education trust organized a wonderful seminar on the subject: ‘whether our children should go to English medium school or a Gujarati?’
Different speakers talked about their concern about dying Gujarati medium schools in Gujarat with great worry. Here is presented Dr. Urmilaben Patel’s (widow of late Chimanbhai Patel- chief minister of Gujarat) speech. Urmilaben is grandmother of English medium goer grandsons. She in his speech says “My grandsons can not speak four sentences in Gujarati and they speak Gujarati like foreigners.”

અમદાવાદમાં અચલા એજ્યુકેશન ટ્રસ્ટ દ્વારા યોજાયેલા સેમીનાર ‘ શિક્ષણનું માધ્યમ ગુજરાતી હોવું જોઈએ કે અંગ્રેજી એ વિષય પર એક દિવસનો સરસ પરિસંવાદ યોજાઈ ગયો. આ પરિસંવાદમાં મંચ પરથી વિવિધ વક્તાઓએ પોતાના વ્ક્તવ્યો આપ્યા અને હાલ સમાજમાં જોવા મળી રહેલી અંગ્રેજી માધ્યમ તરફની ઘેલછા વિષે ચિંતા પ્રગટ કરી. ઉર્મિલાબહેન પટેલ ગુજરાતના એક સમયના મુખ્યમંત્રી ચીમનભાઈ પટેલના પત્ની છે. તેમણે તેમના વક્તવ્યમાં સમાજની તો ખરીજ પરંતુ પોતાના ઘર આંગણાની પણ ચિંતા પ્રગટ કરી. તેમણે કહ્યું કે તેમના પૌત્રો ઘરમાં ગુજરાતીના ચાર સારા વાક્યો તો બોલી શકતા નથી, ગુજરાતી બોલે છે તો વિદેશીની માફક બોલે છે. સાંભળો ઉર્મિલાબહેનનું ચિંતનીય વ્ક્તવ્ય.
