Nirma University at Ahmedabad has a separate division called NirmaLabs for budding innovators with great ideas suitable for market too. B.Tech students at Nirma, Heer Gandhi, Siddharth Vaidya and Kushal Patel together have created ChessStation.

ChessStation is a portable chess game console made on a 15” LCD panel and is interfaced using self designed infrared sensor array touch screen. Because of wood packing and heavy old laptop’s battery, weight of this ChessStation has gone upto 3 to 4 kgs. However Heer and his team have a plan to reduce this weight replacing plastic instead of wood and better battery.

Talking to DeshGujarat, Heer said “We are designing ChessStation in a fashion that it would be compatible to work on electric external power supply too.” He said “We made ChessStation spending 6000 bucks. Major part (60%) of this amount has been spent on the LCD screen which cost 3500 bucks. Nirma Labs has five to six other interesting projects too in pipeline.

After finishing primary phase of ChessStation project, Heer is soon leaving India for farther study in America, Kushal and Siddharth the other team members in this project have already joined Cognizant and Satyam outside Gujarat.

અમદાવાદની નિરમા યુનિવર્સિટિ દ્વારા પાછલા વર્ષે નિરમા લેબ્સ નામનો પ્રોજેક્ટ શરૂ કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો જેના અંતર્ગત નિરમાના બીટેકના વિદ્યાર્થીઓ હીર ગાંધી, કુશલ પટેલ અને સિદ્ધાર્થ વૈદ્યએ ચેસસ્ટેશન નામનું ટચસ્ક્રીન ચેસ બોર્ડ બનાવ્યું છે. આ સ્ટેશન લાકડાના આધારમાં બનાવેલું હોવાના કારણે અને તેમાં જૂના લેપટોપની બેટરી વાપરી હોવાના કારણે તે હાલમાં તો વજનમાં ૩-૪ કિલો જેટલું ભારે છે પરંતુ હીરનું કહેવું છે કે જો લાકડાના સ્થાને પ્લાસ્ટિક અને સારી બેટરી લગાવવામાં આવે તો આ વજન ખાસ્સું ઓછું થઈ શકે છે. ઉપરાંત આને બહારના વિજળી ક્નેક્શનથી પણ ચલાવી શકાય એવી વ્યવસ્થા કરી રહ્યા છીએ. હીર કહે છે કે હાલ આ ચેસસ્ટેશનનો ખર્ચો ૬૦૦૦ રૂપિયા જેટલો પડ્યો છે જેમાંની મોટાભાગની લગભગ સાંહીઠ ટકા જેટલી આશરે ૩૫૦૦ રૂપિયા જેટલી રકમ તો એલસીડી સ્ક્રીન પાછળ ખર્ચાઈ છે. આ ખર્ચ નીચો લાવવા વિશે અમે વિચારી રહ્યા છે.

ચેસસ્ટેશનનું કામ પૂરું કરીને હાલ તો હીર આગળ ભણવા માટે અમેરિકા જવાની તૈયારે કરી રહ્યો છે, જ્યારે કુશલ અને સિદ્ધાર્થ કોગ્નિઝન્ટ અને સત્યમમાં નોકરીએ લાગી ગયા છે.
