The YMCA ground on S.G. road of Ahmedabad is being readied for the Motocross Racing event. Motocross will be held here on May 11. 11 dumpers have unloaded tonnes of mud on the ground where bikers from Ahmedabad city will show their skills in facing 20 tricky hurdles like loose soil, a table top, mud, sand, water etc. The last such event held in Ahmedabad was 1994 Bristol Champions Trophy. It is interesting to note that Baroda organizes Motocross every year regularly unlike Ahmedabad.

Motocross event of 11th May is exclusively for bikers from Ahmedabad. Total 100 entries are expected for participation in this event. Parents’ signed consent, a medical fitness certificate, a bike and a driving license is must for every participant. Moreover there is a provision that bikes should be strictly of Indian make. Bikers will be categorized according to their bikes’ engine power ranging from 50 cc to 250 cc. Each group will have 20 bikers. Riders have been divided as Normal and expert. Normal riders will have five laps of 1.5 km each to cover while experts will go a whole 10 laps.

For safety measures track has been bordered with send bags, dry grass and used tyres. An ICU ambulance and a fire brigade will be on the stand-by.

Motocross is a motorcycle racing sport featuring either dirt tracks or artificial courses. Regardless of the turf, Motocross racing is held on an off-road ‘closed circuit’ track. The motocross tacks often conform to the terrain, with few ‘created’ obstacles or jumps. Motocross bikes are constructed with specially designed equipments such as pedals which are built to fold, that reduces the possibility of damage in a fall. Motocross bikes are built to extend from the fuel tank to the rear fender, offering extra support during landings.

The 20 hurdles in Ahmedabad’s 11th May Motocross will include Berm, Table Top, Double Jump, Ravine Travers, Small Jump, Loose Soil, Small Jump, Brakers, and Slide Winders.

અમદાવાદમાં છેલ્લે મોટોક્રોસ ૧૯૯૪માં યોજાઈ હતી. હવે પંદર વર્ષ બાદ ૧૧ મેના દિવસે એસજી હાઈવે પરના વાયએમસીએ ક્લબના ગ્રાઉન્ડમાં મોટોક્રોસ યોજાઈ રહી છે. માત્ર અમદાવાદના એવા ૧૦૦ બાઈકર્સ આમાં ભાગ લે એવી શક્યતા છે. હજુ સુધી ૭૫ જેટલા બાઈકર્સ પોતાની એન્ટ્રી નોંધાવી ચૂક્યા છે. આ માટે મોટોક્રોસને લાયક મોડીફાઈ કરેલુ બાઈક, લાયસન્સ, વાલીની લેખિત સંમતિ, મેડિકલ ફીટનેસનું પ્રમાણપત્ર જરૂરી છે. બાઈક માત્ર ભારતીય બનાવટનું જ હોવુ જોઈએ એવો પણ નિયમ છે.
