ભારતની આઈટી ઉદ્યોગની છત્રસમી સંસ્થા નાસકોમે હાલમાં જ ભારતના આઈટી અને બીપીઓ ક્ષેત્ર માટે પચાસ શહેરોનો અભ્યાસ કર્યા બાદ અમદાવાદને આઈટી-બીપીઓ માટે દ્વિતીય સ્તરની કેટેગરીમાં સમાવ્યુ છે. આ કેટેગરી ચેલેંજર નામની કેટેગરી છે જેમાં આઈટી-બીપીઓ ક્ષેત્રના અત્યારના લીડર શહેરોને ચેલેંજ કરનારા શહેરોને સમાવાયા છે.

નાસ્કોમે તેના અભ્યાસમાં આઈટી-બીપીઓ મામલે ભારતના કેટલાક શહેરોને પસંદ કરીને ચાર કેટેગરીમાં વહેંચ્યા છે. આમાંની પહેલી કેટેગરી લીડર્સ શહેરોની છે એટલેકે એવા શહેરો કે જ્યાં આઈટી-બીપીઓ ઉદ્યોગ પૂર્ણ રીતે વિકસી ગયા છે. બીજી કેટેગરી ચેલેંજર્સ શહેરોની છે. આ કેટેગરીના શહેરો લીડર્સ કેટેગરીના શહેરોને પડકાર આપી રહ્યા છે અને આપશે એમ નાસ્કોમનું અવલોકન છે. ત્રીજી કેટેગરી ફોલોઅર્સ શહેરોની છે કે જે ચેલેંજર્સ શહેરો પછીના ક્રમે પોતાનો કિરદાર નિભાવી રહ્યા છે. અને ચોથી કેટેગરી એસ્પીરન્ટ શહેરોની છે કે જેમાં હજુ આઈટી-બીપીઓ ક્ષેત્રે પ્રવેશવા ઈચ્છુક અને તત્પર શહેરોની યાદી છે.

નાસ્કોમે લીડર્સ શહેરોમાં બેંગલોર, પૂણે, હૈદરાબાદ, એનસીઆર(દિલ્હી અને આસપાસનો વિસ્તાર), કલકત્તાનો સમાવેશ કર્યો છે. જ્યારે ચેલેંજર્સ શહેરોમાં અમદાવાદ, ભુવનેશ્વર, કોઈમ્બતુર, મેંગલોર, વિશાખાપટ્ટનમને સમાવ્યા છે. ફોલોઅર્સ શહેરો તરીકે ઔરંગાબાદ, ભોપાલ, ગોવા, હુબલી-ધારવાડ, કાનપુર, મૈસુર, પોંડિચેરી તથા ઉત્સુક અને તત્પર શહેરોની એસ્પીરન્ટ કેટેગરીમાં દહેરાદુન, દુર્ગાપુર, ગુવાહાટી, લુધિયાણા, પટણા, રાંચીનો સમાવેશ કર્યો છે.

અમદાવાદના મામલે નાસકોમે કેટલાક સારા અવલોકનો એ કર્યા છે કે બેંગલોર અને પૂણે કરતા અમદાવાદ આઈટી-બીપીઓ માટે સસ્તુ શહેર છે. અહીં ઈન્ફ્રાસ્ટ્રક્ચર પર બેંગલોર કે મુંબઈની માફક બોજો નથી. ઈન્ફ્રાસ્ટ્રક્ચર સુપર્બ અને સોલીડ છે. કર્મચારીઓનું જે રીતે બેંગલોરમાં પોચીંગ થાય છે એ આલમ અમદાવાદમાં નથી. સરકારનું વલણ અત્યંત હકારાત્મક અને આવકાર આપનારુ છે.

Ahmedabad is not among Indian IT-BPO sector’s leader cities of India but it is definitely one of the challenger cities for the cities that are leader in this sector. This is revealed in the latest NASSCOM – A T Kearney study ‘Location Roadmap for IT- BPO Growth: Assessment of 50 leading cities’ released this week.

The findings of the report on the assessment of 50 locations in India provide a detailed gap analysis, with advantages and shortcomings of the locations.

The study also dwells on the available opportunity for attracting investment from this sector with a deeper objective of showcasing a roadmap to achieve uniform economic development in India.

Bangalore along with Chennai, NCR (Gurgaon), Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune are classified as leaders. Based on the stage of development for ITBPO, the locations can be categorised into four groups - Leader, Challenger, Follower and Aspirants.

Ahmedabad, Bhubaneshwar, Coimbatore, Mangalore and Visakhapatnam are identified as the challengers to the leaders vying for the BPO market share.

While Aurangabad, Bhopal, Goa, Hubli-Dharwad, Kanpur, Mysore, Pondicherry are categorised as followers.
