Ganesh immersion procession was attacked in Muslim area of Vadodara city in Gujarat. Groups of Muslims pelted stones heavily on Kumbharwad’s Ganesha procession when it was passing from Fatehpura area. Shiva temple in Fatepura area was also targeted by stones. Ganesh devotees from different areas and processions rushed to the place soon to defend the procession.

Police lobbed five tear-gas shells to quell the mob. However, stone pelting continued. Mobs set a road-side stall on fire and damaged a shop. A shop was also set on fire in Yakutpura area. At different security points, stones were pelted at the cops in Muslim dominated areas. Even a fire brigade vehicle was attacked by groups of Muslims. Fire man Kanaksinh Zala was injured. One police vehicle was damaged. To get control of the situation, Police fired in the air. Total three people were injured including two senior policemen DCP Gagandeep Gambhir and JCP Praveen Sinha.

In Muslim dominated Yakutpura locality, a platform was set to welcome Ganesha processions. This platform was named as ‘Komi ekta manch(communal harmony stage)’. However once riot erupted, rioter groups of Muslims badly damaged this platform.

Vadodara is the city where fanatic group of Muslims had demonstrated Osama Bin Laden’s posters on road last year. Ahmedabad serial bomb blasts some of the main accused are from Vadodara.

Before some days, when Police were on it’s task to collect names of those living on Ganesh immersion procession rout in Muslim locality of Machchipith, local group of Muslims instead of co-operating the police had protested against such drill.

Ganesh immersion procession was also attacked in Muslim areas of Bharuch recently.

Latest on this on Monday: Mob started torching shops and vehicles at around 12.00 in noon in Yakutpura-Fatepura areas on Monday. Police fired two rounds. One person in rioting mob was killed. Rapid Action Force was called. Shower helped to control the situation too. 8 were injured. Read more here
