The Kutch Rann Utsav has an added attraction of 90 km desert safari car rally this time. The rally has been organized on December 12 by the Kutch Infrastructure Development Society in the Rann of Kutch as part of the Rann Utsav 2008.

Many participants in the rally are experienced rally goers who had earlier taken part in the Himalayan and African Car rallies.

It is challenging to drive a car in salty, sandy rough and dry terrain of the Rann of Kutch but participants are ready to take this challenge.

The car rally will be flagged off by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi at the Jubilee ground in Bhuj. After 30 km common road the rally will enter into the Rann of Kutch from Loria escape. After 90 km drive in the Rann of Kutch, rally will end at Serva village.

There are two categories for the participants; 1000 cc cars and 2000 + cc cars. Only post 2003 car models are allowed to participate. Driver plus one person would sit in each car on the route. Total 35 cars are going to participate. Cost of organizing the rally is around Rs. 4 lakh. All cars in the rally are insured at Rs 2.5 crore for any possible damage. In both the categories winners will get Rs 51000, 25000 and 11000 prizes for first, second and third positions respectively.
