Why Narendra Modi’s security was extra-tight in Godhra
Godhra, DeshGujarat, 26 January, 2009

There were unprecedentedly tight security arrangements for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on 26th January in Godhra. Modi was thickly surrounded by extra force of vigilant security men on the flag hosting ground, each person coming to the stadium was checked thoroughly and higher points near the Vijay Chowk were strictly occupied by the security men.

Godhra, where Muslim mobs had burnt more than 50 Hindus in 2002 is known as a sensitive town but One of the major reasons for Modi’s extra-tight security on this 26th of January was an incident in which Border Wing Jawan’s SLR rifle and 20 live rounds were stolen just two days before the 26th January’s main function in Godhra.

Border wing guard Balabhadra Gohil’s SLR rifle butt no. 1533 was stolen on the night of 24th January from the tent which was allotted to him along with other three jawans; Ratnesh Thakor, Kirti Chavda and Kishor Jadeja, all from Jamnagar based battalion 3(company B). Along with the rifle, 20 rounds from Ratnesh’s white color bag were also stolen.

The guards were in Godhra for 26th January related duty in Godhra. They had arrived in Godhra on January 16th. They were deployed for three hours security duty on helipad.

Jamnagar based Battalion 3(company B) commander Narul Ismail Himayat Ali Pathan has filed a police complain about stolen rifle.
