Danger signals at 9 ports of South Gujarat, Saurashtra

Amidst heavy rains and cyclone threat, storm warning signals are replaced at ports along off South Gujarat and Saurashtra coast.
The change in signals occurred after Mat department directed to replace Signal LCS III by Danger signal No.VI along off South Gujarat coast (Magdalla,Surat,Daman,Dahej) and Danger signal no.V along off Saurashtra Coast(Pipavav,Jafrabad,Mangrol,Veraval,Bhavnagar).
“The Cyclonic Storm PHYAN over east central Arabian Sea moved in Northeastwards and lay centered at 0830 Hrs IST of today, the 11th November 2009 over same area near Latitude 17.0 deg North and longitude 72.0 deg. East ,130 km west of Ratnagiri, 250 km South-SouthWest of Mumbai and 500 km south-southwest of Surat. The system is likely to intensify further and move North-Northeastwards and cross South Gujarat and North Maharashtra coast between Alibag and Valsad by today, the 11th November 2009 late evening/night,” the mat dpt bulletin said on Wednesday morning.
“Gales reaching… Squally wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph is likely to commence along and off South Gujarat coast from today afternoon,” The bulletin added.
