India’s Border Security Force(BSF) jawans fired 500 rounds to kick out seven Pakistani boats inside Indian territory on Friday morning near Harami Nala(creek) in Gujarat’s Kutch district. This is second such incident in last two weeks.
According to sources, a patrolling party went towards Harami Nala area at 3.30 am on Friday. After five-hour foot patrolling in marshy land near Harami creek, the patrolling party spotted seven Pakistani boats at distance of 700 meter, fishing in Indian water at around 8:30 am. The boats were ordered to leave Indian territory. After repeated warnings didn’t yield response, the BSF jawans started firing in the air after which the Pakistani boats immediately left the place.
It should be mentioned here that though Harami creek is Indian territory, it is easily accessible from Pakistani side due to good level of water. However from Indian side it is difficult to reach Harami creek due to marshy terrain and low level of water.
India has time and again conveyed to Pakistan that fishing activity in Harami creek should be stopped from their side. However Pakistan has never taken any action.
Now India’s Border Security Force has started venturing into the difficult terrain of creek area to stop Pakistani activities in Harami creek area. In last two weeks, BSF has fired twice to kick out Pakistani boats from Indian area.
BSF Gujarat Frontier has ordered two All Terrain Vehicles(ATV) from Italy.Once they are arrived, it would be easier to safeguard creek area bordering Pakistan. It is expected that two ATVs will arrive by February 2010. ATV was tested in Rann of Kutch and creek areas last year and found suitable for Rann and Creek operations.
