Gujarat Gram Panchayat Poll 2011 involving 1.68 crore voters on 29 December

Gujarat state election commission today announced the details of forthcoming Gram Panchayat elections in the state.
Shri P.S.Shah, Secretary of Gujarat state election commission briefed media persons in Gandhinagar today that the elections of 10,509 Gram Panchayats across the state will be declared on 10 December, 2011.
Candidates will have to file nomination before 15 December, and nominations will be checked on 16 December. By 17 December, candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nomination. Voting will take place on 29th of December. Time of voting will be between 8.00 am and 5.00 pm. Electronic voting machines will not be used in this election. 30th December is declared blank day which can be used for re-poll is needed at some place. Counting will take place on 31st of December.
Shri Shah added that as many as 86,000 representatives will be elected in this election in total.
All 26 districts will witness Gram Panchayat poll involving total 1,68,96,516 voters.
Total number of polling stations will be 23,058. As many as 3074 election officials, 1,15,996 other staff and 39880 cops will be on election related duty according to Shah.
