Vadodara, 10 January 2012
A youth Kevon Hosiyar (25) from California, United States, who has embarked on a Dandi March journey on foot to Dandi from Amdavad in Gujarat in Mahatma Gandhi’s footsteps, was rescued by local fishermen after getting stranded in the river Mahisagar.
Inspired by Gandhi’s famous salt march, Kevon set out on January 5 from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, tracing the salt march route. He was following the time-table of Gandhi’s march, with the aim of reaching Dandi in the same time.
He reached Kankapura village of Borsad taluka here yesterday, and had to cross the river Mahisagar to reach the next village. He was advised by local fishermen against crossing the river on foot, but he still tried and got stuck in the neck-deep water. Two fishermen rescued him.
After the water receded today, he made the crossing by a boat. Gandhi had crossed the river on foot.
