A quick round of newspapers published from Ahmedabad on 17th of February, 2012.
Gujarat Samachar says, in both main party, there are not many who are interested in fighting Mansa assembly by-election(scheduled on 18th March). This is because the general election of assembly is scheduled in December this year, and fewer are interested to become MLA for only some months. Samachar has hinted that Gandhinagar district BJP President Shakuntalaben Patel could be a BJP candidate while Haribhai Chaudhary’s name is in discussion for Congress candidature.
Samachar has prominently placed a news on Impact fee notification. While hearing the matter on sealing on CG Road, the Gujarat government yesterday told Gujarat High Court that notification would be out by 20th February. Sandesh too has highlighted the impact fee news story prominently.
Divya Bhaskar and Sandesh both have published a front page news on non-payment of Rs 48 lakh Service Tax by Gujarati cricketers Parthiv Patel and Siddharth Trivedi. The department has issued a notice to both the cricketers in connection with the cricket matches they played between 2008-2011. According to this news item Parthiv has not paid Rs 42 lakh while Siddharth is yet to pay Rs 6 lakh as tax.
A full page advertisement in section of newspapers is published by the state government on Narendra Modi’s Sadbhavana fast success. And Sadbbhavana fasts continue to get their headlines. DNA has a story claiming that the Chief Minister announced projects of more than Rs 42,000 crore during his fast speeches. The sum is higher than state’s anual plan size of Rs 37,152 crore for 2011-12. The story however makes readers confused at the end, rather than giving a perfect conclusion.
DNA Money has published a story on upcoming Ford automobile manufacture plant in Sanand. The story says that Ford India President and Managing Director Michael Boneham has dismissed rumors of backing out of company’s Gujarat plans and has said that company’s Gujarat project is on track and production will be achieved in 2014 as per the original plan. It should be mentioned that yesterday in section of media there was news that in view of slow down in car market, Ford would halt its Gujarat plant work.
Obsessed with some events that took place ten years back, The Times of India continues to give pages of coverage to stories on 2002 riots. Dumping? Well, you can say it.
The Indian Express has published a story on poor response to Gujaat Youth Congress’s membership drive. Another story on same page says that the city of Rajkot may soon get elevated bus system. A Bangalore based private firm Geosic Techniques Pvt LTD has proposed such service under the Gujarat Infrastructure Development Act. The news service is like monorail, but less costly. It can be used as feeder system for BRTS.
Economic Times has published somewhat strange story on couples who go to Goa, Udaipur, Jaipur, Pondichery or Thiland to marry to get away with inviting fewer guests!!
