Today’s interesting reading is Advaniji’s blog post ‘BJP, a hub of hope’

New Delhi, 31 May 2012

Gujarat MP and central leader of BJP LK Advani’s blog is in discussion today for some of the lines in its operative part. To pick selective parts of his blog post and publish them here would be injustice to Advaniji, a former journalist. Therefore, the maximum portion of core part of his blog post is presented here as it is. The original blog post is available here.

“At a meeting of the BJP’s Core Committee some weeks back, a meeting attended by several senior RSS leaders I had reminisced about my sixty years’ political journey since the launching of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951 by Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerji. I had said that thinking of the party’s successes and failures during these sixty years, I cannot think of a more depressing year than 1984, when in the Eighth Lok Sabha Elections that took place that year, our party had put up 229 candidates. Our score in the Lok Sabha was a miserable two, one from Gujarat and the other from Andhra. In all the other states of the country, including U.P., Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, we had drawn a blank. Even in the first General Elections to the Lok Sabha in 1952, our party had captured three seats, more than in 1984 !”

“In 1984 I was Party President and so felt extremely downcast. But I also remember that the party had set up a Committee headed by Krishan Lal Sharma to analyse the poll results objectively. The Committee had reported that in the rank and file of the party as also in our support base, there was no demoralization because of the electoral setback, which was being attributed to the dastardly assassination of Smt. Gandhi by terrorists and a powerful sympathy wave for young Rajiv Gandhi.”

“The mood within the party these days is not upbeat. The results in Uttar Pradesh, the manner in which the party welcomed BSP Ministers who were removed by Mayawati ji on charges of corruption, the party’s handling of Jharkhand and Karnataka – all these events have undermined the party’s campaign against corruption.”

“The fact that we have a sizable contingent of MPs in Parliament today as against the niggardly two seats in 1984, that our performance in the two Houses under Sushmaji and Jaitleyji has been excellent, that the party is in power in as many as nine states today is no compensation for the lapses committed. I had said at the Core Group meeting that if people are today angry with the U.P.A. Government, they are also disappointed with us. The situation, I said, calls for introspection.”

“Today BJP has become converted into such a hub of hope for all, that if it commits even a minor lapse, it does cause distress and disappointment to the people.”

I think he is feeling disappointed but if news reports are to be believed it is right step to sideline him as he is more of liability than asset. If RSS plans to run party under Modi-Jaitley-Gadkari trio, it would be best for party. Get rid of Sushma, Rajnath, Advani, Jashwant, Naqvi, AnantKumar and bring some young fresh and honest faces.

I do not know how old you are? & for how many years you know BJP & Advaniji? Your comments seems chidish, like most of 24X7 news channel. From your comments, it also looks like your primary source of info. is those stinky 24X7 news channels.

  2. Sudhir Shah says:

Congress with the help of Election Commission and foreign power will make sure that Electronic Voting Machines (EVM)are rigged in such a way that BJP will be denied a majority
in Lok Sabha, the best it will be a hung majority and so a weak Govt.

Time is right for BJP to protest and refuse to participate in the election unless EC guarantees paper trail for each vote cast. Germany, New Zealand, Australia, USA and all other major functioning democracies in the world do not use EVM.

Fair and verifiable voting system will bring respect to elected officials and democracy will thrive.

    • gujjarputtra says:

Sudhir, please remember that congress had accused Modi for rigging the evm machines in last poll. if congress wanted that time through election commission they could have.

Please do not bring this nonsense talk. We have good election commission working with complete freedom

      • babloo says:

Nonsense – Navin Chawla the ex-CEC is a converted Christian – why is he hiding this? Sudhir Shah is completely right – please do some googling.
Congress miscalculated and did not rig everything.

      • Gujarati says:

        Sudhir is right.

EVM are not trust worthy. That’s why developed countries have not accepted them.

    • Eternal says:

Sudhir, do you think BJP’s victory in Gujarat in past decade was due to EC working with BJP to doctrine EVMs? If not, how can you blame EC when Congress wins.

If we don’t honestly introspect and identify issues keeping BJP out of power but put blame on EVMs, BJP will never win.

    • Hardik Pandya says:

Voter Identity should be verified and than only he should be allowed to Vote.

    Pathak ji,
thank you very much for putting the relevant portions of Advanji’s blog on your website. What the newspapers this morning carried about Advani ji’s comments has sent a wrong message about his reactions to the contemporary political situation vis a vis BJP.
Advani is a very experienced politician. He needs to be read between the lines. What he wants to convey is that BJP made a mistake by inducting corrupt politicians like Babu Singh Kushwaha rejected by Mayawati. It not only brought a bad name to BJP claiming to be playing politics of principles but also distanced the voters in UP assembly elections from BJP resulting into its defeat. The reason is simple. If you give shelter to corrupt, then what is the difference between you and other political parties. Why should then voters support you. Stretching it further, the party can meet a similar fate if precautions are not taken to keep corrupt elements away from the party. It is the voice of a man who has spent almost his entire life in politics. It is these people who have contributed a lot to and enriched India’s democratic politics. We need to respect them no matter what is our own ideology.

BJP hav e image problem. From the formation of the BJP Party it is Party of Bhramin, upper class Hindus and retired Royal family. Look at their leadership representation. They have to open up and disassociate from RSS!

BJP having an image problem. From the formation of the BJP Party it is Party of Bhramin, upper class Hindus and retired Royal family. Look at their leadership representation. They have to open up and disassociate from RSS!

    • Mayank Jain says:

At this rate Harsh ji, BJP can improve its image by abandoning all its stands for and putting the portraits of Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Mao and EMS Namboodripaad in their HQ; this will give them the ultimate pro poor image. They can then open their doors for naxalites too.

  6. Sudhir Shah says:

Dear Eternal: EVM are not realiable and suspectible to fraud. This is the proven fact. It can be rigged by a device looking like a mobile phone or can be manipulated by a small device set up in a vehicle not far from the actual EVM where voting is going on or it can be programmed at a pre-determined percentage.

To answer your argument about past Gujarat election results please note that if they had an oppurtunity they would have, I have no doubt about it!

All I am pointing out that EVM are fine but there must be a paper trail to verify the final count in case of dispute or close results. This is the basic requirement of any democracy
to have confidence and trust in an electrol process.Paper trail is very important for all parties now and future, as you do not know which party is willing to corrupt the EC officials
in giveing them access to ECM prior to voting day.

  7. vikram says:

Agree with Sudhir. EVMs are unreliable….German courts and US courts have ruled against them as their is no paper trail…
the mother of all parliamentary democracies and developed, technically advanced country UK is using paper ballots even in their council elections!!
EVMs should be removed…they are not manipulated completely, but even suttle changes can change few seatd and entire processing of govt, a majority govt may be compelled into a coalition govt.
