NRI Gujarati witnesses carjacking, catches it on camera, dials 911(Video)
Prince George’s County, Maryland, 27 June 2012
Prince George’s County Police are asking for the public’s help to try and catch a band of carjackers.
The three men tried to steal three cars within half an hour last Sunday night in Clinton, Md.
The spree started in the 9200 block of Stuart Lane. Investigators say at 11:23 p.m., three suspects steal a victim’s Toyota Camry. It ran out of gas and they moved on to Old Branch Avenue.
Seven minutes later, police say the same suspects tried to carjack a guy driving a Jeep, but they were unsuccessful.
They then set their sights on a woman in a 2007 Dodge Charger, who was in the drive-thru line at The Hangar Club.
Shaishav Patel was waiting on her from the window.
“Three young people came from the back of the store and rushed up to her car. Two of them had guns on them,” Patel says.
The frightening carjacking was captured on the store’s surveillance tape. You can see the suspects – armed with guns – approach the car from both sides. A third suspect is right behind her vehicle.
All Patel could think about was how thankful he was that the customer got away, and that the store’s front door was locked.
“We just called 911,” he said.
Police want people to take a close look at the surveillance tape and call in some tips right away if they recognize any of the three suspects.
“This is very incredible that we would have three suspects try to carjack three vehicles in such a short period of time,” says Sgt. Sonya Rorls of Prince George’s County Police. “We want to get them off the street before someone is seriously injured.”
