Speaking on an important decision moment in her life, India’s Olympic bronze winner badminton player Saina Nehwal today said her decision to leave studies to focus on game was a right decision taken at right time.

“When I was in twelve, I wanted to play Olympic, I told my papa that I don’t want to continue my studies but want to give my best in my badminton,” said Saina Nehwal during her interaction with media persons in Ahmedabad.

“I thought this would bring more pressure to me, because as I left my study and therefore had to prove myself in badminton,” she added adding that badminton was not so popular at that time.

“I think between 2006 and now the way badminton has changed is amazing. It has become one of the popular sports in India, ” she said.

“I really am very proud of myself that I took right decision at right time, and I think God is with me and I am very lucky that I took right decision at that time. My dream of winning Olympic and sitting on that podium is accomplished,” Sains further said.

When asked about comparison of China and India in terms of sports infrastructure, Saina replied, ” Talent wise, self belief wise and commitment wise Indian are fine, but on infrastructure and sponsor side we are a lot behind them. Many in India would like to play but there’s no infrastructure, no coaches of that level. If this changes, we can also win like China, we are not any way less powerful so far talent is concerned.”

Saina was in Ahmedabad to participate in an event held at Adani school in Ahmedabad. Mrs. Priti Gautam Adani felicitated her and presented Rs 11 lakh cheque.
