Three NHDP highway projects delayed in Gujarat

Three national highway projects under National Highways Development Project (NHDP) in Gujarat are delayed. According to details shared by the minister of state in the ministry of Road Transport and Highways Dr. Tushar A. Chaudhary in parliament, a list of the projects delayed(under implementation) in Gujarat are following:

Gujarat/Maharashtra border-Surat-Hazira port Highway no.6: This Rs 1509.1 crore project involves 132.9 km, out of which 88.202 km works are completed. This Build Operate Transfer(BOT) project was kicked off in March 2012 and was to be completed in September 2012. It will now complete in March 2013 as per the latest estimate. Delay period is six months.

Samkhiyali-Gandhidham Highway no. 8A: This Rs 805.39 crore project involves 56.16 km highway, out of which 37.36 km works are completed. This BOT project kicked off in September 2010 and original target date of completion was March 2013. However the latest target is to complete the project in December 2013. It’s nine months delay.

Surat-Dahisar highway no. 8: This Rs 1693.75 crore six lane project involves 118.2 km length in Gujarat, and 120.77 km in Maharashtra, thus total 239 km. Out of that 233.3 km works are completed. This BOT project kicked off in 2009. Target of completion was August 2011, which is now June 2013. It’s 22 months delay.

In reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Minister Tushar Chaudhary said that some projects under National Highways Development Project (NHDP) across India are delayed due to poor performance of contractors, delays in obtaining statutory Environment/ Forests/ Wildlife clearances, law & order problems in some states and delay in land acquisition etc.
