By our correspondent, Ambaji, 9 April 2013

Tribal village of Gunbhakhri will witness annual Chitra Vichitra fair on 10-11 April.

The fair attracts thousands of traditionally dressed tribal people from remote villages of north Gujarat and Rajasthan every year on Fagan Vad Amas day. Rural people from Rabari, Prajapati castes also join the fair.

Arrivals of tribal people will this year begin late in the evening on 10 April. During whole night, tribal people sing songs for Chitra Vichitra Mahadev. At 5.00 am, after hearing the voices of dhol, tribal people start crying in loud voice, remembering their elders who are no more. After custom of bath in river, they enjoy fair starting from around 10.00 am.

There is an exciting story behind the Chitra-Vichitra Mela. The historical relevance of this Mela dates back to the Mahabharat era.

Tribal people from Rajasthan’s Udepur, Kotda, Chhavni, Khedbrahma’s Lakhia, Kagvasi and Shihori belt, Gujarat’s Dungri Garasia and Rabaris from Poshina belt and Bhils from Danta visit this fair in large numbers.
