News in brief from across Gujarat (updated)


Ahmedabad, 9 May 2013

-Gujarat BJP’s parliamentary board meeting will be held on 11 May in Gandhinagar in presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi and others. The meeting will discuss names of candidates for by-elections of two Lok Sabha and four Assembly seats in Gujarat. The by-polls are to be held on 2nd June.

-A status report on Ishrat Jahan encounter case was filed today in the High Court. Hearing on same will be held on Friday.

-The names of Chairman and Vice Chairman for 12 committees of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will be decided on Friday.

-Gujarat Parivartan Party(GPP) has withdrawn its plea against new Lokayukta bill passed in the Gujarat assembly today as per the direction of the Supreme Court.

-The Gujarat High Court today gave some relief to IPS Satish Varma and stayed probe against him in year 1996 Porbandar case till 12 June. Next hearing will be held on 12 June.

-Suspended IPS Dr. Vipul Agrawal filed plea seeking cancellation of complaint against him in Tulsi Prajapati encounter case in light of recent Supreme Court decision considering Sohrabuddin and Tulsi encounter cases as one.

-BJP has suspended 19 Councillors of Amreli Municipality who voted against party’s mandate in the election of President and Vice President on 7 May.

-With 19 teams, the state forest department has completed the two-day exercise to count the numbrer of herbivores like spotted deer, sambar, blue bull, four-horned antelope, Indian gazelles, wild boar, langoor, and peacock in Gir National Park and Sanctuary. In 2012 69,000 herbivores were counted in 1412 sqkm protected forest area of Gir.
