The Gujarat government has made an important amendment in admission procedure of Degree engineering post 12th Science.
Until now, general category 12th Science students required 45% and reserved category students required 40% marks in theory subjects to become eligible to apply for admission in degree engineering courses.
Now as per a new decision announced today, this year, not only theory marks, but practical marks will also be counted in basic minimum requirement of percentage to get admission in degree engineering courses. This means, the students will need 40-45% marks in theory+practicals.
The government has taken this decision to provide chance to apply for engineering courses to more students.
If only theory marks are counted 53,000 students can apply for degree engineering courses, but if theory and practical marks are counted jointly, 18,000 more students can apply for degree engineering courses.
The decision of state government will help private colleges to admit more students. This would cure the problem of vacant seats in engineering colleges to large extent.
