Bharuch, 25 September 2013
Traffic jam on national highway number – 8 near Bharuch is not a new thing, but due to heavy rain and flood in parts of central and south Gujarat, the situation of traffic on this highway was even worse. Generally this highway witnesses 10-20 km long traffic jam, but today’s traffic jam was whopping 50 km long!
Cancellation of major trains on Ahmedabad-Mumbai-Ahmedbad route added more traffic to national highway no.8 today.
One of the major reasons contributing to traffic jam on national highway no.8 in Bharuch district is presence of toll booths.
In a welcome step, the Bharuch Collector today asked toll-booth operator companies to halt toll collection in view of massive traffic jam and flood situation.
Thanks to this order, toll collection has been stopped today at infamous Sardar bridge toll booth and other toll booth on national highway in Bharuch district.
Bharuch Collector Mrs. Avantika Singh said flood situation is critical and under watch. She said over 13,000 people are shifted to safer places including 8 relief camps.
