Ahmedabad police bans immersion of plaster of paris made murtis in river/talav

Ahmedabad city police commissioner has issued a notification putting ban on visarjan(immersion) of murtis made from plaster of paris in rivers and talavs during Ganesh Chaturthi mahotsav.
In connection with Ganesh Utsav which is beginning on 29th of August, city police commissioner has today announced ban on several activities under the Environment act 1986 section 5.
According to this, plaster of paris made murtis will not be permitted for immersion in water. Devotees will need to leave plaster of paris made murtis on the bank of the river or talav.
Murtis made from mitti(soil) but having chemical colors will also not be allowed for immersion in water.
City police has also put ban on murtis taller than 9 ft during Ganesh utsav.
No signs will be allowed as part of murti that may hurt someone’s sentiments.
The notification will be effective till 10 September. One who breaches it will be suitable for punishment under IPC 188.
