Union Labor and Employment Secretary Gauri Kumar today said her department is working with the Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) to make class 12 equivalence to a supplementary bridge course.

“We are now working with the CBSE on the pattern of Gujarat to make available class 12 equivalence to a supplementary bridge course,” Gauri Kumar said while speaking at a seminar on Skill Development – Mobility Channels in Gujarat capital Gandhinagar in presence of Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and state Finance Minister Saurabh Patel.

It should be mentioned that as a Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi had in year 2011 took a decision to upgrade two-year post-standard-VIII technical courses taught at Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) at par with standard-X, and three-year post-SSC diploma taught at polytechnic colleges at par with standard-XII. Those who pass ITI courses of two years or more of National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) or Gujarat Council for Vocational Training (GCVT) are treated at par with Gujarat Secondary Education Board’s Standard-X or Gujarat Open School Examination. Students have to only clear their Gujarati and English examination to make them eligible for higher education in post-SSC courses. Also, students completing two year’s ITI course after class X or its equivalent course, having passed NCVT or GCVT examinations are treated at par with Gujarat Secondary Education Board or Gujarat Higher Secondary Education Board’s standard XII or Gujarat Open School and could opt for higher courses.

Gauri Kumar also spoke about Government of India’s plan to launch National Career Service. She suggested that Gujarat government should make district level brand ambassador to promote skill training and education. She said the Government of India wants one model Industrial Training Institute(ITI) in each state with help of industry.
