CRZ clearance to Adani for Ship recycling facilities at Mundra Port

Gujarat Government has given Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance to M/s Adani Port and SEZ Limited (APSEZL) for their West Port at Mundra, Kutch for developing Ship Recycling facilities. It has also recommended the Government of India, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change for necessary approvals to go ahead.

Gujarat Government’s CRZ authority has also expressed satisfaction over the action taken by the Gujarat Government’s various authorities for compliance with the Directions issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, based on recommendations made by the Committee constituted under Chairperson of leading environment activist Sunita Narain, Director, General, CSE, Delhi for APSEZL.Narain had and earlier UPA government at centre had directed the Gujarat Government and the APSEZL to take various measures following violation of the CRZ norms.

The Gujarat Government has set up a Committee under the Principal Secretary(Environment) for the Environmental Restoration Fund and periodically report the progress to Secretary, Environment and Forests. The Fisheries Commissioner and GMB was requested to take necessary action to build exclusive fishing harbors for the livelihood support of the fishermen of Bhadreshwar in a period of two years.

The Collector and District Magistrate, Kutch , GSDMA and APSEZ was directed to consider linking Disaster Management Plan of the different project proponents of APSEZL to the “ District Disaster Management Plan “ in the interest of the vulnerable people in and around the Project area to ensure human safety with early warning Practices. The company and the district authorities have also started preparing it.
